Una nuova iscrizione dal tempio di Uni di Marzabotto

This paper examines a newly discovered inscription unearthed in 2024 at the urban sanctuary of Uni in Marzabotto. A careful analysis of the text allows for the formulation of several hypotheses concerning the ways of writing of the inscription, which appears on a fragment of a bucchero cup – an ostrakon. The vase holds ritual significance, as evidenced by its use in sacred liturgies. The inscription is contextualized within the broader framework of the city’s epigraphy, to which it contributes new elements, particularly of palaeographic and lexical interest. One expression in particular suggests that this inscription may be grouped among the Etruscan Bauinschriften. The term erama closely recalls the text of the well-known Pyrgi Tablets. Following a discussion of recent scholarly interpretations of the term’s meaning, the analysis shifts to the inscription’s archaeological context, assessing its implications through an approach that foregrounds the interpretive complexity of the text.
