The various forms of conflict and violence that erupted between the deputies and the people since the early days of the French revolution led to a constant effort to develop a legal and ideological framework to limit future manifestations of popular force. This dynamic is particularly evident in the reinterpretation of Lockian right of resisting and the claim, under certain conditions, of a duty to rebellion: potentially subversive principles that were soon confined within specific normative boundaries. The assembly debates and the multiple constitutional drafts developed between France and the sister republics make it possible to reconstruct the different ways in which, starting from different contexts and cultures and from a reality marked by the radicalisation of political and military conflict, attempts were made to address, manage, or legitimise the various forms of public violence that permeated the public sphere by framing them within a specific and evolving normative context.

Abstract
The various forms of conflict and violence that erupted between the deputies and the people since the early days of the French revolution led to a constant effort to develop a legal and ideological framework to limit future manifestations of popular force. This dynamic is particularly evident in the reinterpretation of Lockian right of resisting and the claim, under certain conditions, of a duty to rebellion: potentially subversive principles that were soon confined within specific normative boundaries. The assembly debates and the multiple constitutional drafts developed between France and the sister republics make it possible to reconstruct the different ways in which, starting from different contexts and cultures and from a reality marked by the radicalisation of political and military conflict, attempts were made to address, manage, or legitimise the various forms of public violence that permeated the public sphere by framing them within a specific and evolving normative context.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
