The impact on partial discharge inception voltage of ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid) cooling of electrical motors used in electrical vehicles was investigated. The oil was leaked on insulated rectangular conductors heated up to 180° C, keeping a gap between conductors to simulate the geometry of hairpin motor end-windings. Although repeatability issues exist mainly due to variations in the micrometric gap and its temperature dependence- the results indicate that PDIV can be reduced by 10 %-15 %. These results should be carefully considered when designing EV electrical machines.

Abstract
The impact on partial discharge inception voltage of ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid) cooling of electrical motors used in electrical vehicles was investigated. The oil was leaked on insulated rectangular conductors heated up to 180° C, keeping a gap between conductors to simulate the geometry of hairpin motor end-windings. Although repeatability issues exist mainly due to variations in the micrometric gap and its temperature dependence- the results indicate that PDIV can be reduced by 10 %-15 %. These results should be carefully considered when designing EV electrical machines.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
