The article discusses the presence of the tragic figure of Polyxena in the “funeral marriage” episode of Apuleius’ tale of Cupid and Psyche. While a connection with Ovid's Polyxena (met. XIII 456-460) has long been recognised in the first part of the episode (met. IV 34), the second part (IV 35, the ascent to the arduus mons) appears to be modelled on Seneca’s “stoic” Polyxena (Tro. 1145-1152).

Abstract
The article discusses the presence of the tragic figure of Polyxena in the “funeral marriage” episode of Apuleius’ tale of Cupid and Psyche. While a connection with Ovid's Polyxena (met. XIII 456-460) has long been recognised in the first part of the episode (met. IV 34), the second part (IV 35, the ascent to the arduus mons) appears to be modelled on Seneca’s “stoic” Polyxena (Tro. 1145-1152).File in questo prodotto:
