This article examines the significant collaboration between director Mauro Bolognini and writer-intellectual Pier Paolo Pasolini between 1957 and 1960. During this period, Pasolini contributed to the screenplays of five of Bolognini’s films, bringing his unique perspective on Rome’s urban underclass and the "ragazzi di vita" to the screen. The study explores how Pasolini's poetic and linguistic influence merged with Bolognini’s formalist and aestheticizing style, often resulting in works that challenged social conventions and faced censorship. This partnership not only shaped Bolognini's career but also served as a fundamental apprenticeship for Pasolini before his directorial debut with Accattone.

Abstract
This article examines the significant collaboration between director Mauro Bolognini and writer-intellectual Pier Paolo Pasolini between 1957 and 1960. During this period, Pasolini contributed to the screenplays of five of Bolognini’s films, bringing his unique perspective on Rome’s urban underclass and the "ragazzi di vita" to the screen. The study explores how Pasolini's poetic and linguistic influence merged with Bolognini’s formalist and aestheticizing style, often resulting in works that challenged social conventions and faced censorship. This partnership not only shaped Bolognini's career but also served as a fundamental apprenticeship for Pasolini before his directorial debut with Accattone.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
