Situating Sappho fr. 16 N. and Alcaeus fr. 42 and 283 V. in a historical and anthropological framework with a focus on gender issues suggests that the two poets’ conflicting views of Helen derive from the political and social position of their audiences and not only from the gender differences between them. On the other hand, the tool of gender reveals also the fluidity of erotic attitudes in these poems.

Abstract
Situating Sappho fr. 16 N. and Alcaeus fr. 42 and 283 V. in a historical and anthropological framework with a focus on gender issues suggests that the two poets’ conflicting views of Helen derive from the political and social position of their audiences and not only from the gender differences between them. On the other hand, the tool of gender reveals also the fluidity of erotic attitudes in these poems.File in questo prodotto:
