The History of Criminal Law shows, during the 16th century, a significant turn in a repressive and inquisitorial direction, traditionally interpreted as a consequence of the absolute state and, at the same time, as an instrument of its construction. Sexual crimes became a privileged vantage point for observing the transformations affecting not only law but also culture and society at the beginning of the Modern Age. This article questions the meaning of this aggravation through certain successful historiographical categories.

Abstract
The History of Criminal Law shows, during the 16th century, a significant turn in a repressive and inquisitorial direction, traditionally interpreted as a consequence of the absolute state and, at the same time, as an instrument of its construction. Sexual crimes became a privileged vantage point for observing the transformations affecting not only law but also culture and society at the beginning of the Modern Age. This article questions the meaning of this aggravation through certain successful historiographical categories.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
