Archeologia della produzione a Tharros: dati dai nuovi scavi dell’Università di Bologna per la ricostruzione della società punica

The trading vitality of Tharros, the ‘Carthage of Sardinia’ located on the Sinis Peninsula, has generated, since the earliest research at the site, various hypotheses on the city’s dominant role in the manufacture of various Punic craft categories, in particular scarab seals and jewellery, but also certain types of terracotta masks, figurines and kind of pottery. The archaeological research conducted by the University of Bologna, which have been active for several years both in the area corresponding to the urban context of the Punic-Roman period and in the suburbs, on the isthmus Sa Codriola and on Capo San Marco, are providing important data for the knowledge of the spatial organisation of the various neighbourhoods serving the city and, consequently, for the future reconstruction of Punic society.
