Territories located in inland areas, marked by natural or artificial fortifications, are often a focus of attention because, despite their immense cultural, historical, and natural her- itage, they are frequently in a state of abandonment and depopulation. Many disciplinary fields are involved in the reactivation, regeneration and enhancement of these areas. This research aims specifically to investigate, map and ana- lyze case studies in which design has played an active role in these types of contexts. 150 case studies, from 28 countries, were collected and catalogued. The data was then pro- cessed and made usable through data visualizations. Finally, a summary framework identifies the three main categories in which design-driven actions have fostered the reactivation of these places.
