The paper analyzes the recent agreement (intesa) concluded between the Italian Republic and the Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Italy, placing it within the broader framework of religious pluralism and national church policy. It first outlines the main features of the Orthodox diaspora in Italy and then focuses on the specificities of the agreement with the Romanian Orthodox Church. The study particularly addresses three distinctive aspects: the regulation of religious holidays and their coordination with civil law, the functional protection of places of worship, and the legal status of ecclesiastical entities. This intesa, which falls within the framework of Article 8(3) of the Italian Constitution, provides insights into the renewed dynamism of the principle of bilateralism as an instrument capable of reconciling respect for confessional autonomy with the need for fuller legal integration of religious minorities.

Abstract
The paper analyzes the recent agreement (intesa) concluded between the Italian Republic and the Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Italy, placing it within the broader framework of religious pluralism and national church policy. It first outlines the main features of the Orthodox diaspora in Italy and then focuses on the specificities of the agreement with the Romanian Orthodox Church. The study particularly addresses three distinctive aspects: the regulation of religious holidays and their coordination with civil law, the functional protection of places of worship, and the legal status of ecclesiastical entities. This intesa, which falls within the framework of Article 8(3) of the Italian Constitution, provides insights into the renewed dynamism of the principle of bilateralism as an instrument capable of reconciling respect for confessional autonomy with the need for fuller legal integration of religious minorities.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
