The launch of the Food For Life European Technological Platform, in 2005, with the publlication of the Vision document set a turning point in the research strategies of the european institution able to look to the future of the food science and technology. Under the supervision of a highly qualified team of scientist and with the sponsorship of the confederation of the european Food Industry (CIAA) this European Technology Platform Food for Life gave the suggestions for the future research and the reccomanations to the EC indicating the requirements for the agro-food industry, the largest manufacturing sector in Europe. Infact, an increasing societal awareness of the opportunities to improve the quality of life through healthy eating and of the contribution that sustainable production can make to improvement of the overall environment. In this presentation will be showed an overview of the hot topics included into the Food for Life platform documents and how the European Commission is processing those research suggestion in the strategic agenda, and will be illustrated how this process of renovation of research strategy has been transformed in research founding opportunity in the case of the oldest European University as the University of Bologna, promoting also the launch of the national (italian) branch of the ETP Food for Life.
