The article explores the crisis of the mechanistic conception of reality induced by quantum mechanics through the thought of Bruno Latour. The first part analyses the ‘disappearing’ mechanism of scientists’ “making” at the basis of modern epistemology and Nature. The second proposes the experiment as an ‘event’, showing the agency of scientists (and others). Starting from this reappearance of acting, we question Ettore Majorana's disappearing act and the unprecedented efficacy offered to desertion.

Abstract

The article explores the crisis of the mechanistic conception of reality induced by quantum mechanics through the thought of Bruno Latour. The first part analyses the ‘disappearing’ mechanism of scientists’ “making” at the basis of modern epistemology and Nature. The second proposes the experiment as an ‘event’, showing the agency of scientists (and others). Starting from this reappearance of acting, we question Ettore Majorana's disappearing act and the unprecedented efficacy offered to desertion.
