This Special Issue results from the international conference “Relational outcomes and collective action” held at the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences of Scuola Normale Superiore in Florence between May 16 and 17, 2023. Over 2 days, a community of young and prominent scholars of social movements met to discuss an under-explored topic: the relational consequences of collective action efforts. Before we proceed with this introduction, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who made this event possible. We thank all the presenters for generously sharing their research, the Scuola Normale Superiore community, comprising the academic, administrative, and technical staff, the audience who engaged with the event, and everyone who took the time to submit proposals. We hope there will be other opportunities to meet and keep on discussing these relevant issues. The event’s success convinced us of the necessity to bring our discussion out of the walls of our faculty to open a broader debate in the academic community. The discussions and insights generated during this event laid the groundwork for the thematic focus of the present collection. Hence, this work reflects the collective dedication of scholars to explore novel dimensions within the field, making this special issue a testament to the vibrancy and ongoing evolution of research in collective action studies.
