The objective of this research is to study the impact of the implementation of restorative justice programmes used in some Californian correctional institutions, exploring the meanings and experiences of inmates and ex-offenders. The ex-prisoners were selected based on their choice to participate in restorative justice programmes within the prisons. This element can be understood as an indicator of satisfaction with the outcomes of the programmes in which they participated during their imprisonment. The methodology employed is of a qualitative nature, incorporating a combination of several research techniques, including semi-structured interviews and participant observation. The primary findings demonstrate the efficacy of restorative justice programmes implemented within penal institutions in enhancing offenders' capacity for victim recognition, the motivation to make amends, and reintegration into society.
