Una cesura temperata. L'applicazione della Riforma comunitativa nei territori del Mugello (1774-1790)

This study aims to examine the implementation of the Municipal Reform by Peter Leopold (1774) in a specific area of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, geographically corresponding to the Mugello region and administratively comprising ten communities (seven in the Contado and three in the Distretto). While the theoretical framework and origins of the reform have been thoroughly investigated by historiography, its practical enforcement remains considerably less explored. By analysing the complex process of implementation in the territory under consideration, this study will shed light on the internal reception, application, and both conscious and unconscious violations of the general principles of a reform that sought to transform the ruling class of local communities, replacing a traditional elite of native notables with a new class of property-owning administrators.
