Cities are one of the frontiers of the ecological transition, not only because they are responsible for the majority of GHG emissions and pollution more generally, but also because they are highly exposed to the effects of climate change, e.g., when it comes to heat waves or floods. Furthermore, in an international context in which several States seem less committed to climate action, cities turn out to be key actors to meeting the goals of the Paris Agreement. The article delves into the topic from the perspective of labour law, exploring three different questions: the balance between the right to health, the right to work, and the protection of the environment in the case of large polluting companies located close to cities; the use of remote working as a climate mitigation and adaptation actions; the use of mayors’ contingent and emergency acts to prevent certain work activities being carried out during extreme climate events

Abstract
Cities are one of the frontiers of the ecological transition, not only because they are responsible for the majority of GHG emissions and pollution more generally, but also because they are highly exposed to the effects of climate change, e.g., when it comes to heat waves or floods. Furthermore, in an international context in which several States seem less committed to climate action, cities turn out to be key actors to meeting the goals of the Paris Agreement. The article delves into the topic from the perspective of labour law, exploring three different questions: the balance between the right to health, the right to work, and the protection of the environment in the case of large polluting companies located close to cities; the use of remote working as a climate mitigation and adaptation actions; the use of mayors’ contingent and emergency acts to prevent certain work activities being carried out during extreme climate eventsI documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
