This article is a first introduction to the metaphors relating to the sovereign Akhenaten (mid-14th century BC) used in the texts inside the tombs in the city he founded, modern-day Amarna, in honor of the Sun god Aten. Through a varied phraseology, in these texts the owners of the tombs describe their personal devotion to Aten, the only divinity worshipped by the royal family and the court, and their sovereign. In particular, the abundance of metaphors that describe and exalt the figure of Akhenaten as a source of life, expresses the emotional bond between the individual and the sovereign of Egypt.
