Aim of this paper is the analysis of the ancient interpretations of Demodocus’ song on the adultery of Ares and Aphrodite (Od. VIII 266-366). Whereas the majority of the ancient Homeric exegetes traditionally minimized the comic element of the episode through athetesis or expunction or allegorical/ethical readings, some scholia and some pages of Eustathius’ Commentary on Odyssey testify a critical position, in order to highlight its comic and licentious character.

Abstract
Aim of this paper is the analysis of the ancient interpretations of Demodocus’ song on the adultery of Ares and Aphrodite (Od. VIII 266-366). Whereas the majority of the ancient Homeric exegetes traditionally minimized the comic element of the episode through athetesis or expunction or allegorical/ethical readings, some scholia and some pages of Eustathius’ Commentary on Odyssey testify a critical position, in order to highlight its comic and licentious character.File in questo prodotto:
