This paper investigates the phenomenon of retranslation in children’s and young adult literature from a gender perspective, by analyzing a corpus of texts and their (re)translations. Published from the 1970s to the present in different editorial contexts (independent and feminist publishing houses but also large generalist publishers), they are addressed to different audiences (from early childhood to adolescence) and range across different genres (picture books, novels, and graphic novels). More specifically, the study examines three French works (re)translated into Italian, and an American graphic novel translated into French, first published in France and later in Quebec. These two different cultural contexts are characterised by a distinct and peculiar editorial offer and allow for further consideration on the retranslation phenomenon. Adopting an interdisciplinary approach that combines translation studies, gender studies, and publishing studies, the analysis focuses on the gender-related aspects involved in the (re)translation of the texts included in the corpus, delving into their publishing history as well as aspects related to the translation strategies adopted
Il presente contributo intende studiare il fenomeno della ritraduzione nella letteratura per ragazze e ragazzi in prospettiva di genere, a partire da un corpus di testi e delle rispettive (ri)traduzioni, che vanno dagli anni ’70 ad oggi, rivolgendosi a pubblici diversi (dalla prima infanzia all’adolescenza), attraverso svariati generi (albi illustrati, romanzi e graphic novel), presso sedi editoriali differenti (case editrici indipendenti e femministe ma anche grandi case editrici generaliste). Si tratta più precisamente di tre testi francesi (ri)tradotti in italiano, e di una graphic novel americana tradotta in Francia e successivamente in Québec, due contesti culturali diversi caratterizzati da un’offerta editoriale distinta e peculiare, che permette ulteriori riflessioni sul fenomeno della ritraduzione. Adottando un approccio interdisciplinare che combina studi traduttologici, studi di genere e sull’editoria, l’analisi verterà dunque sugli aspetti di genere nelle (ri)traduzioni dei testi del corpus, soffermandosi sulla loro storia editoriale nonché su aspetti rilevanti dal punto di vista delle strategie adottate.
