Zwischen Fremdwahrnehmung und Historiographie. Die deutsche Literatur aus der Sicht von Carlo Denina (1731-1813)

Half a century separates the publication of the brief notes on German literature in the first edition of Carlo Denina’s "Discorso sopra le vicende della letteratura" (1760) from that of the "Saggio istorico critico sopra le ultime vicende della letteratura" (1811). In this time span, the Berlin edition of the Discourse (1784–1785) stands out, representing a significant maturation of his reflections, both structurally and in terms of content. In his synchronic and inclusive approach to European literary events, Denina devotes more attention to German literature, which is represented here by a larger number of authors and works.
