The architecture of entertainment buildings is a privileged field for studying the urban development of ancient cities, particularly in a border area between East and West such as Epirus. This contribution re-examines the archaeological evidence regarding the only theatrical building in Butrint, located in the sanctuary of Asklepios. After a brief description of the structures, integrated with data from on going research on the site by the Butrint Project, their peculiar characteristics are highlighted. Particular attention is given to the alterations made to the building during Roman Age, exploring the condition of traditional Greek theatres being remodelled to acquire features from the Western traditions. In this regard, the second part of the paper presents some new data about the potential existence of a second building for spectacula. The research started from the analysis of anomalies identified from satellite imagery and aerial drone photographs, combined with other documentary evidence. The preliminary results permit to advance for the first time the identification of an amphitheatre, not otherwise known in Butrint, in the suburban area on the Vrina plain.

Abstract
The architecture of entertainment buildings is a privileged field for studying the urban development of ancient cities, particularly in a border area between East and West such as Epirus. This contribution re-examines the archaeological evidence regarding the only theatrical building in Butrint, located in the sanctuary of Asklepios. Particular attention is given to the alterations made to the building during Roman Age, exploring the condition of traditional Greek theatres being remodelled to acquire features from the Western traditions. In this regard, the second part of the paper presents some new data about the potential existence of a second building for spectacula.
