Stories on grass. Looking at ancient urban landscapes through aerophotography between Picenum and ager Gallicus !e Roman landscape of the Picenum and ager Gallicus was characterised by a large number of urban centres located along the main valleys that have not always survived to the present day. Many Roman towns at the bottom of the valley were abandoned and today appear as rural areas where aerophotographic surveys can be very productive, as shown by the research carried out by the University of Bologna in Civitalba, Suasa, Ostra and Falerone. Historical and geographical factors can determine situations of di"erent visibility of cropmarks and consequently the geophysical survey can integrate the overall reconstruction. A particularly interesting case is that of the municipium of Suasa, where it is possible to link the archaeology of the town with that of the river that conditioned the history of the ancient town.
