The essay offers an analysis of the book Spazi per la danza contemporanea edited by Ada d’Adamo with a focus both on the space and place in dance, and for dancing, and on the education of the dancers. This study portrays the cultural processes defining these terms in dialogue with the case studies mentioned by d’Adamo and with the literature on dance and theatre from the 20th century onwards in respect to the dissemination of dance in non‑theatrical venues and to the redefinition of the “home” of the artists. It investigates their connection with the territories and the community of dance amateurs, as well as with the transformation of the performative languages, which foster a cultural militancy whose current profile is already outlined in d’Adamo’s book. As such, it pays an homage to the researcher, looking up from the page and into the contemporary dance scene to depict her trajectory with respect to the present times.
