Although only recently rediscovered by historians of the Revolution, the theory and practice of voting represent crucial aspects in the development of political culture between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. A diachronic analysis will highlight the trajectory that led reflections on voting to focus increasingly on the individual and the personal, considering not only the revolutionary decade but also reflections on representation in the last decades of the Ancien Régime and the early years of the Restoration. Through the study of emblematic figures associated in various ways with the cercle des idéologues – from Condorcet to Daunou to Benjamin Constant – it will be possible to reconstruct the theoretical and experimental evolution of voting, from the rational seal of universal truth and justice to the reflection on the plurality of interests of the individual voter.

Abstract
Although only recently rediscovered by historians of the Revolution, the theory and practice of voting represent crucial aspects in the development of political culture between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. A diachronic analysis will highlight the trajectory that led reflections on voting to focus increasingly on the individual and the personal, considering not only the revolutionary decade but also reflections on representation in the last decades of the Ancien Régime and the early years of the Restoration. Through the study of emblematic figures associated in various ways with the cercle des idéologues – from Condorcet to Daunou to Benjamin Constant – it will be possible to reconstruct the theoretical and experimental evolution of voting, from the rational seal of universal truth and justice to the reflection on the plurality of interests of the individual voter.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
