The paper is focused on the dynamic models of inverter-based resources. The models are suitable for grid-forming inverters and applicable for stability studies of various types of resources - photovoltaics, battery systems and STATCOMs. The paper presents the models implemented in two software tools, namely MODES and EMTP. The test system refers to a medium voltage network. The transients following a transition to islanded operation are analysed considering the presence of both static loads and motors, local inverter interfaced generation and a battery storage unit. The results obtained by using the two different software tools are in close agreement.

Abstract

The paper is focused on the dynamic models of inverter-based resources. The models are suitable for grid-forming inverters and applicable for stability studies of various types of resources - photovoltaics, battery systems and STATCOMs. The paper presents the models implemented in two software tools, namely MODES and EMTP. The test system refers to a medium voltage network. The transients following a transition to islanded operation are analysed considering the presence of both static loads and motors, local inverter interfaced generation and a battery storage unit. The results obtained by using the two different software tools are in close agreement.
