Autoimmune enteropathy (AIE) is a rare cause of chronic intractable diarrhea. We report the case of a 2-month-old infant who presented with intractable diarrhea and signifcant weight loss. Once clinical stability was achieved, endoscopy allowed AIE to be diagnosed. Ultrasound studies (US) correlated clinical and laboratory fndings with the gastrointestinal infammatory state during the course of the disease. This approach facilitates an appropriate and timely therapeutic strategy, with immunosuppressive treatment currently representing the primary therapeutic option.

Abstract
Autoimmune enteropathy (AIE) is a rare cause of chronic intractable diarrhea. We report the case of a 2-month-old infant who presented with intractable diarrhea and signifcant weight loss. Once clinical stability was achieved, endoscopy allowed AIE to be diagnosed. Ultrasound studies (US) correlated clinical and laboratory fndings with the gastrointestinal infammatory state during the course of the disease. This approach facilitates an appropriate and timely therapeutic strategy, with immunosuppressive treatment currently representing the primary therapeutic option.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
