The recent discovery of an ecclesiastical complex near the city of Cervia (Ravenna) sheds light on a forgotten chapter of the history of the area. The building might be the episcopal seat of the bishops of Cervia, which was possibily founded during the first decade of the 5th century CE. A lead seal dated to the 12th century and a charter dated to the 13th century are among the main clues for the identification of the complex. The excavations, carried out by a team of the University of Bologna, are currently being carried out, and in the next years will certainly bring new data related to this subject.

Abstract
The recent discovery of an ecclesiastical complex near the city of Cervia (Ravenna) sheds light on a forgotten chapter of the history of the area. The building might be the episcopal seat of the bishops of Cervia, which was possibily founded during the first decade of the 5th century CE. A lead seal dated to the 12th century and a charter dated to the 13th century are among the main clues for the identification of the complex. The excavations, carried out by a team of the University of Bologna, are currently being carried out, and in the next years will certainly bring new data related to this subject.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
