Il Vangelo secondo Tommaso: stato della ricerca e prospettive future

The article provides a reasoned presentation of the research on the Gospel of Thomas (with a focus on recent research), organizing the discussion by thematic cores: issues related to the composition of the text and its relationship with other writings (starting with the synoptic gospels), its possible sources, dating, context of origin (historical, cultural and social), relationship with Gnosticism, the quest for the historical Jesus, the reception of the Gospel of Thomas in antiquity; finally, some specific issues focused on recent publications are addressed (relationship with Platonic traditions, digital humanities approach, gender studies, debate between «Old» and «New Philology», papyrological analysis). The main open questions and prospects are also indicated.
