Carpological analysis aims at studying the remains of cultivated and wild plants within archaeological sites, in order to reconstruct ancient human diet and connected activities. The reconstruction of the paleoenvironment surrounding the site is another aim of paleocarpological research. Capillary and homogeneous sampling has characterized the research strategy at Karkemish since the first excavation campaign in 2011.
