This diagnostic investigation focuses on painted plaster samples from the main pictorial cycle datable to the 11th century of the church San Pietro all’Olmo in Cornaredo (MI), carried out in 2016 by the Conservation Science Laboratory for Cultural Heritage of the Department of Cultural Heritage of the University of Bologna on the occasion of restoration funded by the Restituzioni Project. Analysis of sample fragments included an initial photographic documentation in stereomicroscopy, followed by the use of different scientific techniques for the chemical characterisation of the inorganic and organic compounds, in order to gather information on the materials constituting the artwork, the painting technique, and the non-original materials used during previous restorations.
