There has been a growing interest in the use of chest ultrasound ("thoracic ultrasound" - TUS) in the identification of pneumothorax. The "lung point" is 100% specific for pneumothorax. However, a "lung point" is only visible in partial pneumothorax and depends on the position of the patient. Ultrasonic elastography ("ultrasound elastography" - USE) was developed to assess the elasticity and rigidity of the tissues. In a single-arm prospective study (doi:10.1111/crj.13193), USE confirmed the presence of pneumothorax diagnosed with "lung point". This "lung point" displayed with elastography was called "elasto-lung point". The purpose of the study was to understand the diagnostic accuracy of pulmonary USE in recognizing the presence of pneumothorax in comparison with TUS.

Abstract
The purpose of the study was to understand the diagnostic accuracy of pulmonary USE in recognizing the presence of pneumothorax in comparison with TUS.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
