The contribution proposes some reflections, starting from a social worker's point of view, on the issue addressed in the Focus of the Review on work in social enterprises. The analysis of working conditions in the care economy does not have the relevance it deserves in scientific and academic reflection, given the impact it has on the lives of hundreds of thousands of people, starting with the relationship between the quality of working conditions and the quality of social and welfare services and interventions. The analysis of working conditions in social enterprises therefore represents a privileged point of observation of the state of health of the Italian welfare system, in an attempt to grasp the structural conditions that underpin it and what is at stake. Given the extensive literature on the social economy and the complexity of the issues raised, the paper focuses on two of them: i) the importance of the social enterprise construct in relation to processes of institutional innovation, the ultimate aim of which is to promote the publicness of the goods and services produced; ii) the potential of the social enterprise construct for thinking about a different way of thinking about the concept of economy and the relationship between economy and society, starting from the role of work in empowering people and reproducing society. The intertwining of these two issues, which has characterised the social economy since its origins and whose transformations are of great contemporary interest, is the thread that runs through the paper.

Abstract
The intertwining of these two issues, which has characterised the social economy since its origins and whose transformations are of great contemporary interest, is the thread that runs through the paper.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
