This paper provides an overview of some of the major methodological issues facing agricultural statisticians in developing countries for generating reliable data on agriculture. It will take into account some of the findings of a recent survey conducted by FAO in Africa region in the framework of the preparation of the Implementation Plan for Africa of the Global Strategy to Improve Agriculture Statistics as well as research and advances being made in some countries and by specialized Agencies such as FAO and others to address some of the issues.
