Adaptation and comparison between podcasts and tv series: the case of Homecoming

The article analyses cases of narrative adaptation between different types of media texts. Specifically, it deals with fictional audio podcasts (podcast dramas), from which TV series have been made in recent years. The first part of the essay deals with a brief examination of the general scenario, followed by an in-depth analysis of the Homecoming case study. The analysis made it possible to show, by means of a semiotic methodology, how in the audio podcast the narration conveyed exclusively through the sound dimension (voices, noises, sound effects) implies specific limitations, also due to the need to sublimate the visual dimension, with problems concerning description and referentiality. By comparing some audio sequences of the podcast and some audio-visual sequences of the TV series, interesting commonalities and divergences in the textual strategies emerged, which are also pertinent to inter-semiotic translation issues.
