This article aims to highlight the role of music in the early sources of Luciano Anceschi's thought on the history of aesthetics. By reading some extracts froma Anceschi's earliest book, Autonomia ed eteronomia dell'arte (1936), it is argued that some of his marks on Novalis, Poe, Baudelaire, Verlaine and Mallarmé reveal a coherent function of music in the general and progressive self-definition of his later poetics, with some attempts at confrontation with Ezra Pound's philosophy of literature and, finally, Roman Ingarden's phenomenological treatise on music.
