This article examines the concept of intimacy through the lens of media and cinematic “remediation.” It explores the paradoxical relationship between public exposure and private space, particularly within the genre of backstage movies. By analyzing the interplay between trust, confidence, and vulnerability in intimate settings, the study delves into how media technologies mediate and transform notions of privacy. Using the example of the film My Life Directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, the text highlights the tensions between professional and personal spheres, illustrating how the camera becomes both a disruptor and a mediator of intimacy. The article concludes by proposing that intimacy, far from being eradicated by exposure, can be redefined and reappropriated through media’s reflective processes.
