Purtroppo quel libro l’ho mezzo rimosso! Phenomena of Approximation among Semantics, Pragmatics, and Actionality. A Contrastive Study in Italian, Bulgarian, and Russian This contribution delves into the adverbial uses of the Italian adverb mezzo ‘half’ by conducting a comparative analysis with Russian and Bulgarian. Employing a usage-based approach and utilizing parallel and comparable corpora, this study explores whether the two Slavic languages achieve the “approximative” functions of the adverb mezzo, especially in its pragmatic uses, through morphological means. Specifically, it examines the role of actional verbal prefixes such as po- and pod-. The underlying assumption is that a contrastive approach is valuable in revealing how languages distribute pragmatic information between lexicon and morphosyntax
