The article explores the editorial history of Práctica del confessonario, a manual by Capuchin Jaime de Corella (1567-1699) that concerns how to administer the sacrament of penance. It contextualizes the manual’s success by considering de Corella’s biography, the systems of censorship in early modern Spain and Italy, and the textual typology to which the work belongs. Particular attention is given to a section of the text devoted to sexual sins, in the light of Michel Foucault’s The Will to Knowledge.
