Illuminare il Mediterraneo : il faro di Alessandria e la storia, faro dell’umanità

Illuminating the Mediterranean: the lighthouse of Alexandria and history, a beacon for humanity Goff in October 2008, on the occasion of the interview he gave to some professors of the University of Bologna in his Parisian home and the awarding of the prize dedicated to him and of which he was to become the eponym: the international prize ‘the Golden Arcade - Jacques Le Goff’. And from the light of history, the essay traces the representation of the lighthouse of Alexandria through some medieval diaristic sources and glances between the West and the East of the Mediterranean.

La storia è il faro dell’umanità. Queste le parole pronunciate da Jacques Le Goff nell’ottobre 2008, in occasione dell’intervista rilasciata ad alcuni docenti dell’Università di Bologna nella sua abitazione parigina e della consegna del premio a lui dedicato e del quale diventerà l’eponimo: il premio internazionale “il portico d’oro – Jacques Le Goff”. E dalla luce della storia, il saggio vuole ripercorre, attraverso alcune fonti diaristiche medievali e sguardi tra Occidente e Oriente del Mediterraneo, la rappresentazione del faro di Alessandria d’Egitto.
