Regarding the theme of Sustainability Education, the contribution strikes a critical balance of the new guidelines for the teaching of Civic Education, instituted on the basis of the Ministerial Decree n. 183 (September 7th, 2024) for all the levels of the national education system in Italy and to be adopted since the school year 2024-2025. The paper underlines, in particular, a clear misconception of these guidelines regarding the concepts of growth and development, at the center of the scientific debate since the early 1970s (above all, Donella H. Meadows et al., The Limits to Growth, 1972).
