This article deconstructs the greedy and grotesque parody of the portmanteau film Signore e Signori, Buonanotte (1976) in order to highlight a peculiar component of the populist imaginary and discourse, developed in the 1970sItalian crisis. The analysis returns a satire that is addressed directly to the average citizen - however, without yielding to demagogic subterfuges - for put in the pillory a republican democracy devouredby economic and moral corruption
