The letters to Herodotus and to Pytocles are the canonical texts where every Epicurean could find, summarized and easily available, the scientific foundations of the Epicurean doctrine, indispensable for participating actively in the scientific debate developed in the Kepos. Epicurus, though, dealt with aspects of his scientific thought not only in these two letters, as these few but precious fragments and testimonies of the so-called private letters prove.
