The book is aimed at educational professionals (educators, teachers, trainers) and policy makers, especially those working in international environment and in challenging contexts. The volume illustrates the results of research carried out between 2018 and 2022 within international cooperation projects conducted in West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza. After the creation of an Index for Inclusion and Empowerment with local teachers, the research team trailed its use in supporting inclusive and equitable education school policies and instructional design practices. The Index, conceived in partnership with NGO EDUCAID, aims to enrich the original tool, focused on inclusion only (Booth and Ainscow, 2011), with the value-added concept of empowerment, thus not only overcoming obstacles hindering learning in the situation experienced by Palestinians, but providing teachers and students tools to enhance self-confidence and awareness, autonomy and responsibility for the own and community benefit. Integrating inclusion and empowerment incorporates the will and capacity of the young Palestinian school system to be inclusive while providing individuals with such necessary competences.
Il libro si rivolge ai professionisti dell'educazione (educatori, insegnanti, formatori) e ai policy maker, in particolare a coloro che lavorano in ambito internazionale e in contesti sfidanti. Il volume illustra i risultati di una ricerca svolta tra il 2018 e il 2022 nell'ambito di progetti di cooperazione internazionale condotti in Cisgiordania, Gerusalemme Est e Gaza. Dopo aver creato un Indice per l'inclusione e l'empowerment con gli insegnanti locali, il team di ricerca ne ha monitorato l'uso per sostenere politiche scolastiche inclusive ed eque e pratiche di progettazione didattica. L'Indice, concepito in collaborazione con l'ONG EDUCAID, mira ad arricchire lo strumento originale, incentrato solo sull'inclusione (Booth e Ainscow, 2011), con il concetto di valore aggiunto dell'empowerment, superando così non solo gli ostacoli che impediscono l'apprendimento nella situazione vissuta dai palestinesi, ma fornendo a insegnanti e studenti strumenti per aumentare la fiducia in se stessi e la consapevolezza, l'autonomia e la responsabilità a beneficio proprio e della comunità. L'integrazione di inclusione ed empowerment incorpora la volontà e la capacità del giovane sistema scolastico palestinese di essere inclusivo, fornendo agli individui le competenze necessarie.
