The face of Europe is constantly changing, as a result of mobility, migration and globalisation. It is estimated that today there are at least 175 nationalities within the EU borders (Eurostat, 2007). Migration and mobility have brought about changes in the linguistic landscape of Europe, making multilingualism an increasingly common reality, and highlighting the need for new policies and projects that take into account linguistic diversity (European Commission, 2004).
