Supported by a thorough selection of artworks by well-known photographers, the paper aims at exploring the role of photography in drawing a comparison between the two centres of Bologna: the executive pole of the Fiera District designed by Kenzo Tange and the historical city centre. If Paolo Monti’s city centre photos fostered the construction of a solid project, the selection depicting the Fiera District discloses a crisis that, perhaps, has to be attributed to a never-completed masterplan.

Abstract

Supported by a thorough selection of artworks by well-known photographers, the paper aims at exploring the role of photography in drawing a comparison between the two centres of Bologna: the executive pole of the Fiera District designed by Kenzo Tange and the historical city centre. If Paolo Monti’s city centre photos fostered the construction of a solid project, the selection depicting the Fiera District discloses a crisis that, perhaps, has to be attributed to a never-completed masterplan.
