This paper aims to illustrate the theoretical framework and the first data of a research path carried out with educators, pedagogical coordinators and educational manager of the Centers for Children and Families of the Municipality of Modena. In particular, it intends to investigate the role of these services within the Integrated System of Education and Instruction (L. 107/2015 and Dlgs. 65/2017), which emphasizes how integrative services (so called centers for children and families, play spaces and educational services in a home setting) can offer diversified opportunities for care and support, alongside the traditional nursery. The ultimate goal, envisioned by legislation and supported by reference studies, is to respond more comprehensively to new parental needs and promote the growth of children, who would be benefited by inclusive services: centers for children and families are referred to as an opportunity to bring families who do not attend daycare closer together and to attract the most vulnerable households, who often remain on the margins of educational and socialization offerings (Pedagogical Lines, 2021). The ongoing research-education investigates the accessibility of four Centers, with the aim of reflecting on their organization and identifying in a shared way possible changes to make the offer on the territory of the Municipality of Modena more readable and inclusive. An initial analysis of the data collected in the early stages of the research is presented in the paper, focusing on reconceptualizing the mission of the services themselves and identifying priority users (children and/or parents).
