In the last decade or so, a growing confidence has emerged about the positive role civil society can play in deeply divided societies. It has been deemed indispensable for the long-term sustainability of peace processes (Hampson, 1996:7) and a critical space where participation is enhanced and diversity and pluralism can be fostered (Peck, 1998). It is often under- stood as a crucial agent in influencing the political system and in providing a more solid foundation to democratization, the rule of law, and the respect of human rights.

Abstract
In the last decade or so, a growing confidence has emerged about the positive role civil society can play in deeply divided societies. It has been deemed indispensable for the long-term sustainability of peace processes (Hampson, 1996:7) and a critical space where participation is enhanced and diversity and pluralism can be fostered (Peck, 1998). It is often under- stood as a crucial agent in influencing the political system and in providing a more solid foundation to democratization, the rule of law, and the respect of human rights.File in questo prodotto:
