La patria degli ebrei emancipati (1848-1918)

Thanks to their involvement in the Risorgimento, the Jews experienced a rapid process of integration. With the acquisition of civil and political rights, now considered citizens of the same status as the other Italians, many of them started seeing the nation as a kind of surrogate religion. For some, it was not a way of cutting their ties with tradition, but rather a reinterpretation of their customs based on the superiority of Judaism – an idea also shared by many rabbis – regardless of any disagreement they had on ritual.
