Da Firuzabad al Golfo Persico: ricerche per l’individuazione degli approdi di epoca proto- sasanide (III secolo d.C.) sulla costa iraniana del Golfo Persico.

In 2019 the Italian-Iranian Joint Archaeological Mission in the Fars started the project “From Firuzabad to the Persian Gulf”, within the PRIN 2017 project “Eranshahr: Man Landscape and Society in Arsacid and Sasanian Iran”: it aims to shed new light on some points of crucial historical importance, including communications between the plateau and the Persian Gulf in the early Sasanian period. The importance of a new study of the stretch of coastline in relation to Firuzabad in search of evidence of occupation and maritime activities must include a study of morphological features, which is essential in an area affected by powerful seismic events. Reconstruction of the ancient coastline has been provided for the Gulf of Nayband by geomorphologist A. Sembroni. Together, the lack of written sources suggested that an expert in ancient seafaring, D.M. Mezzapelle, be included in the research team, calling on his expertise to identify suitable landing points.
