Pierre Bourdieu. Il mercato dei beni simbolici e altri scritti sull'arte

In these texts presented for the first time in Italian translation, Pierre Bourdieu outlines the contours of a sociology of art capable of overcoming the classic antinomy between the internal and external interpretation of artworks. The centrepiece of the collection is Le marché des biens symboliques, a fundamentally important text and a theoretical premise of the author's path in the sociology of arts and culture. The essay is accompanied by translations of other writings on art, including Pitié réligieuse et dévotion artistique, in which the author, starting from a small ethnography of the church of Santa Maria Novella, questions the boundaries between the sacred and profane gaze, and an open letter to Paolo Fossati on Einaudi's Storia dell'arte italiana, in which Bourdieu, after praising the project, poses some "notes on the margin" that on a careful reading reveal themselves to be anything but peripheral in the definition of the art of the Italian art world. anything but peripheral in the definition of a 'science of art'. The translation of all the texts, by Chiara Tartarini, is enriched with an extensive series of notes by the co-curator herself, which clarify Bourdieu's theories with reference to the history and theory of art, making his multiple and heterogeneous references accessible to the reader.

In questi testi presentati per la prima volta in traduzione italiana, Pierre Bourdieu delinea i contorni di una sociologia dell’arte capace di superare la classica antinomia tra lettura interna e lettura esterna delle opere. Fiore all’occhiello della raccolta, è Il mercato dei beni simbolici, testo di fondamentale importanza e premessa teorica del percorso compiuto dall’autore nell’ambito della sociologia delle arti e della cultura. Il saggio è accompagnato dalla traduzione di altri scritti sull’arte, tra cui Pietà religiosa e devozione artistica, dove l’autore, a partire da una piccola etnografia della basilica di Santa Maria Novella, si interroga sui confini tra sguardo sacro e sguardo profano, da Chi ha creato i creatori? e da una lettera aperta a Paolo Fossati sulla Storia dell’arte italiana di Einaudi, in cui Bourdieu, dopo aver lodato il progetto, pone alcune “note al margine” che a una lettura attenta si rivelano tutt’altro che periferiche nella definizione di una “scienza dell’arte”. La traduzione di tutti i testi, ad opera di Chiara Tartarini, è arricchita di un’ampia serie di note della stessa co-curatrice, che precisano le teorie bourdieudiane in riferimento alla storia e alla teoria dell’arte rendendo accessibili al lettore i suoi molteplici ed eterogenei riferimenti.
